Huge Strides in VR Capture?

Four researchers from the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (Suttisak Wizadwongsa, Pakkapon Phongthawee, Jiraphon Yenphraphai, and Supasorn Suwajanakorn) could very well have just set the new standard for VR live-action video. The previous state-of-the-art technology for immersion in VR struggled with complex lighting, taking the user out of whatever scenario they were using the technology for. These researchers have created NeX: Real-time View Synthesis with Neural Basis Expansion, which handles these lighting situations beautifully.
